Authority

Authority is an essential part of life; it’s not something we can ever skip over, or push to the side forever. This is now unfortunately an increasingly relevant topic these days. Fake news is bad because it claims to be an authority but it’s really not. Real news is bad because it may or may not be an authority, we don’t have a third-party authority to tell us which media to trust!

Let’s first agree that real authority should be taken more seriously than fake authority. That’s easy enough. But what if every office of every institution is no longer a genuine/real/trustworthy authority? What if the people in charge of educating us are actually trying to misinform us? What if the people in charge of healing us are actually trying to make us sicker, so they can profit by selling us medicine and other health services? I could go on and on here, and it wouldn’t be hypothetical… I bet you get the point, but I bet you don’t get how serious this is. In many countries around the world today, and perhaps across time as well, the authorities in charge are not trustworthy.

Dharma says that even if the person holding the office is corrupt beyond repair, we must still respect the office, and act in a way so no one loses face. This is an attitude and culture alive and well all over Asia, but most present in the Far East.

Logos says that we should investigate deeply into this matter, and be ready to throw away all fake authorities, regardless of their office, and uphold and promote every real authority, regardless of their office. This is my natural inclination, now and ever since I was young. I think it mostly comes from my DNA; many centuries of European descent coursing through my veins.

Now it’s starting to seem that both these monolithic attitudes are faulty. Dharma and Logos, maybe even both of them put together cannot save us from the mayhem that comes from deeply corrupted authorities and oligarchic tyranny. Fortunately, God Himself is ALWAYS a real authority, and is ALWAYS present. For those willing, this is great news! End of story, see ya next time!

What about the secular world? Well that’s a different story. I think this is one of the rare instances where Ethos actually trumps both Dharma and Logos. I personally recommend seeing God as the only real authority, to myself and ALL others, because this approach will literally never fail, but it’s really difficult. Just as difficult as it is simple; as it is with all manifestations of timeless wisdom.

Instead of going through the motions (dharma) or constant journalistic investigation to see who is a white hat or black hat (logos), we can just stick to ethos/character. Who do we like? Who do we want to associate with? Who is mature beyond their years? Who is friends with the best people? These are all Ethos questions.

For example, let’s take a look at our favorite human goblin, Dr. Fauci. Dharma says, he’s in charge of a big health institute, so we better follow his advice on epidemics, even blindly is fine. This is what most Americans are doing, which is one of the most angering problems I’ve seen for years in this country. Modern Westerners acting like they’re Chinese peasants in the empire; this is idiotic beyond measure. Logos says, he’s a hypocrite! Constantly changing his mind, with a sketchy track record, we should avoid seeing him as any kind of authority. See how these are extreme positions? Ethos is in the middle.

Ethos says, he’s REALLY short, looks like a goblin, and where did he come from anyway? That last question is huge. It’s the same with Bill Gates; sure he’s a big figure, but why is ANYBODY listening to this computer nerd when it comes to health and medicine? That’s not his ethos, and it’s bad ethos on our part to just go along with the flow (a manipulative deception in this case), when WE ALL KNOW that Gates is NOT a real authority on anything concerning health, besides how to make a ton of profit off vaccines, which by the way is not health, that’s business.

This also brings us to one of the eternal downfalls of ethos; we can only be an accurate judge of character when our own character is founded well enough. We don’t need to be saints, but if we are very sinful, we will have no way of accurately judging who is truly good or bad. This is another problem I’ve noticed most of my life in USA. People are sinning way too much here; so they can’t see anything with clear sight. Even when you explain it to them logically, clearly, cogently, etc. many times they just don’t see it; their lack of ethos gets in the way. This seems like a self-defense mechanism. The psyche is probably thinking, “If I start being honest with my perception of others’ character, then eventually I’ll have to apply those same perceptions to myself, and what if I don’t like what I see? What if I’m even worse?” Of course, a crucified ego from years of shadow work and other intensive meditation techniques make such inner dialogue sound silly and not authoritative.

As we progress in Logos, we get an increasingly clearer perception of Ethos, in ourselves and others. As we progress in Dharma, we get consistently better at behaving appropriately with others, so that when the time comes when we need to do something to uphold the Dharma, revolution or war for example, we can act boldly and with good Ethos. Logos and Dharma both effect Ethos, and Ethos effects the other two as well. One main benefit of living life according to pure Ethos is that it is universal; from the Far West to the Far East, everyone agrees that a well founded and excellent character is an essential aspect of an excellent and happy person. Unfortunately there is no hard science to get there.

Instead of talking about real news or fake news, following or rejecting authority, I propose something very different. Let’s just talk about character. Let’s go ad hominem and pro hominem. Do I need to read ANY science articles to know that I probably shouldn’t blindly follow Dr. Fauci? NO! Do I need to feign respect to a corrupted man because of what uniform he wears? NO! At no point in history, does a great master like Aristotle or Buddha or Christ say that we should run around scared when there’s a flu. They had flu back then, just as we do now. It’s never mentioned, because it’s REALLY not important. So when people close churches and temples to stop or slow the spread of a virus, what they’re really saying is they trust the Ethos of a goblin like Dr. Fauci more than Aristotle or Srila Prabhupada. Shame on all these billions of humans. Shame on them all. I don’t need any “Science” to show me how obviously true this is. These are very dangerous times for men like me…it used to be that I could just let people be stupid and sinful, knowing that they couldn’t damage the world too much, but those days are over.

Whatever world wars and genocides happened last century you thought were so bad, I fear the events in this century could be much worse. I know myself. I know what I would do if I was in charge of a small county, what to speak of a great nation. Evil must be stopped, and constantly held at bay. Who is doing that? In the public eye, almost no one. Actually, President Trump is currently leading the charge. And of course there are individuals everywhere doing their part, like me, but unfortunately we don’t hear good stories on most media channels.

What a long text this is, and how easy it was to write…catch ya later.

Stay wise, stay human.

  2. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
